Guwahati Airport Area to Become Luxury Hotel Hub with Marriott Lead

Assam is on the brink of a hospitality and tourism transformation as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans for 11 five-star hotels in Guwahati. Central to this initiative are two Marriott properties—Marriott Resort & Spa and Fairfield by Marriott—to be developed on 76 bighas near Guwahati Airport with a ₹500 crore investment by Junali Construction. The project was formalized at the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, aimed at promoting investment in the state.

On May 12, 2025, CM Sarma performed the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony at Borjhar, officially launching construction. The Marriott Resort & Spa will feature 196 rooms, while Fairfield by Marriott will offer 288 rooms. Both hotels will include large ballrooms, open lawns, and comprehensive parking facilities. Completion is expected within 36 to 48 months.

The Chief Minister highlighted the socio-economic benefits of the project, noting its potential to create jobs, drive tourism, and boost Assam’s GDP. Strategically located near tourist hotspots like Kaziranga, Manas, and Kamakhya, these developments are expected to increase visitor stays and local economic activity.

Further underscoring Assam’s rising investment profile, Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, has committed ₹50,000 crore over five years, including plans to develop a seven-star Oberoi hotel in the state.
