Atmosphere Core Sets Sights on India with Bhopal Hotel Launch

Maldives-based hospitality group Atmosphere Core has announced its entry into the Indian market with plans to open an all-women managed hotel in Bhopal, marking the company’s first venture in India. Co-founder and Managing Director Salil Panigrahi confirmed that this initiative signals the beginning of Atmosphere Core’s operations in the country.

Established in 2014, Atmosphere Core currently operates nine properties in the Maldives under its premium brands—Colours of Oblu, The Ozen Collection, and Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts—accounting for a significant share of the country’s hotel inventory. The company aims to bring its signature experiential and leisure-driven model to India, focusing on scenic, nature-rich destinations rather than metropolitan areas.

Atmosphere Core has already signed agreements for a few hotels in India and anticipates opening two to three properties in the coming years. Over the next five years, the group plans to operate 15 to 20 resorts and hotels across leisure destinations, including Bengaluru, North and Northeast India, as well as upcoming projects in Kolkata and potential developments in Goa.

Internationally, Atmosphere Core is also expanding its presence across the Middle East and Africa, and is developing a heritage hotel in Italy by converting an old monastery into a luxury property. Additionally, the company is exploring growth opportunities in Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, with plans to expand its portfolio to 12 or 13 properties in the Maldives and one in Sri Lanka.
