India's Bio-Revolution: A New Era of Biomanufacturing

India has unveiled a nationwide network of High Performance Biomanufacturing Platforms under the BioE3 Policy (Biotechnology for Environment, Economy & Employment) to accelerate its bioeconomy and innovation landscape.

Spearheaded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), these cutting-edge hubs will offer world-class infrastructure, technology, and expertise to startups, SMEs, industry players, and researchers. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh hailed the initiative as a "turning point in India's innovation journey," placing the country among the early global leaders in advanced biomanufacturing.

The platforms will integrate synthetic biology, AI, machine learning, and omics technologies to enable sustainable innovations across health, agriculture, clean energy, food systems, industrial biotechnology, and climate resilience. By bridging the gap from lab-scale research to pilot and pre-commercial stages, the initiative is designed to fast-track bio-based solutions.

With a vision to build a USD 300 billion bioeconomy by 2030, the government aims to position India as a global biotechnology powerhouse and drive innovation-led growth.
