Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has been awarded a contract by Southern Railway for the upgradation of the electric traction system in the Salem division, aimed at supporting a 3,000 MT freight loading target.
The project involves upgrading the existing 1x25 kV traction system to a 2x25 kV system across the Salem Junction (SA) – Podanur Junction (PTJ) route, as well as the Irugur (IGU) – Coimbatore Junction (CBE) – Podanur Junction (PTJ) section.
The contract is valued at ₹143.38 crore, with a scheduled completion period of 24 months.
