JSW Steel Bags Dugda Coal Washery Deal

JSW Steel has secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bharat Coking Coal Ltd. (BCCL) to develop and operate the Dugda Coal Washery in Bokaro, Jharkhand, for 25 years.

Issued on March 28, 2025, by BCCL, a subsidiary of Coal India, the LoI designates JSW Steel as the successful bidder for the project.

The agreement provides JSW Steel with a firm linkage of 2 MTPA raw coking coal and operational control over the washery output. BCCL will supply the raw coking coal at a 2.35% premium over its notified price. Additionally, JSW Energy (Utkal), a consortium partner, will procure washery by-products at market-linked prices.

As part of its strategy to enhance domestic coking coal availability and reduce reliance on imports, JSW Steel is also commissioning three coking coal mines in India.
