Atlanta Electricals Limited has secured approval from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to manufacture up to 400 kV class transformers at its Vadod facility in Gujarat, with production to begin within two years of the plant’s groundbreaking.
This clearance enables the company to enter the extra-high-voltage (EHV) transformer segment, subject to fulfilling qualification criteria and successfully completing a short-circuit test. Backed by approvals from both PGCIL and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Atlanta Electricals is now eligible to bid for large-scale EHV transformer projects, supporting its goal of achieving peak utilization of 63,000 MVA capacity.
With over three decades of experience and a diversified portfolio spanning power, automotive, and inverter-duty transformers, the company views this development as a key strategic milestone. It strengthens Atlanta Electricals’ competitive positioning in the utility and industrial transformer markets while enabling expansion into high-value segments.
Chairman and Managing Director Niral Patel noted that the approval validates recent investments in the Vadod facility and allows the company to scale up production of high-MVA units—critical for India’s grid modernization and renewable energy integration. The certification also supports the company’s growth ambitions in the renewable energy sector and aligns with India’s planned transmission capital expenditure of INR 9.6 trillion through 2032.
