BDA Restarts Bidding for Peripheral Ring Road

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has initiated the e-tendering process for the 74 km Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project, initially proposed in 2007 as a solution to alleviate city congestion. Remarkably, this marks the third call for tenders by the BDA for the project.

Rebranded as the Bengaluru Business Corridor, the project is set to be developed through a public-private partnership model. With an estimated cost of Rs 27,000 crore and a contractual lease period of 50 years, the project encompasses a comprehensive budget, including a substantial land acquisition expense of nearly Rs 21,000 crore. Prospective bidders are required to submit their bids by the specified deadline of 29 February 2024, with the technical bid evaluation scheduled for 02 March 2024.

The proposed eight-lane access-controlled expressway is designed to create a semi-circle around the city, traversing the taluks of Bengaluru North, Bengaluru East, and Anekal. Executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, the project will span approximately 74 km, featuring a width of 100 meters, inclusive of service roads leading to Bengaluru City.

Key components of the project include cloverleaf junctions, flyovers/underpasses, road overbridges, road underbridges, vehicular underpasses/overpasses, toll plazas, transport zones, culverts, minor and major bridges, utility ducts along the road, and a designated green corridor. As part of the tender requirements, a deposit of Rs 270 crore is mandatory.

The ambitious Bengaluru Business Corridor project aims to significantly enhance the city's transportation infrastructure, contributing to its overall development and addressing long-standing traffic issues.
