Telangana Takes Action to Protect Singur Dam

The Telangana government has formed a high-level committee, headed by the Engineer-in-Chief, to recommend measures for the protection and fortification of the Singur reservoir.

The committee will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) based on findings from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) and assess long-term structural and operational enhancements. The move was announced by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha during a review meeting with irrigation officials on August 19, 2025.

Emphasising recent inflows from Maharashtra and Karnataka, the minister confirmed that 45,000 cusecs of water had been released downstream as a precautionary measure, assuring that there is no immediate threat to the dam’s safety.

Officials have been directed to leverage advanced technologies in the DPR and explore alternative solutions to reduce pressure on the reservoir. The initiative highlights Telangana’s proactive approach to managing water infrastructure and mitigating flood risks amid changing hydrological patterns.
