Assam Petro-Chemicals (APL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to establish a 150-tonne-per-day (TPD) e-Methanol plant at Kandla Port in Gujarat.
The agreement was signed at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Under the MoU, DPA will provide the necessary infrastructure, including pipeline connectivity and fuel handling facilities, while APL will develop the green methanol production unit. The project aims to position Kandla Port as a major green fuel hub along key international maritime routes, such as the Singapore–Rotterdam corridor.
Dr. Sarma described the initiative as “a significant step towards clean energy and the green shipping transition.” The plant is expected to lower logistics costs, enhance shipping integration, attract more deep-sea vessels, and boost regional trade.
