L&T Secures ₹2,500 Cr Ammonia Synthesis Order

L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore has secured a significant EPC order from Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL), a joint venture between Coal India and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, for a coal-to-ammonium nitrate project in Odisha.

The contract involves the execution of lump sum turnkey Package-3 for setting up an advanced ammonia synthesis unit. The scope of work includes process licensing, basic and detailed engineering, procurement, construction, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance guarantee test runs, along with adherence to stringent industrial safety standards.

L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore will also oversee project management and the final handover of the ammonia synthesis unit and associated facilities under a single-point responsibility model. The order falls under the company’s “significant” category, with an estimated value ranging between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore.

The upcoming facility will support downstream production of nitric acid and ammonium nitrate while improving operational efficiency, process reliability, and integration across the overall plant infrastructure.
