Jewar Airport Launches: NCR Gets Its Third Aviation Hub

With the commencement of domestic commercial operations at Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, the National Capital Region (NCR) has added its third airport, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure expansion.

Beyond serving as a major aviation gateway, the Centre has outlined plans to develop NIA into a full-fledged aerotropolis — an integrated economic ecosystem centered around the airport. The vision aims to transform the region into a hub for industries including manufacturing, information technology, logistics, hospitality, agriculture, cargo handling, and aviation services.

The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across western Uttar Pradesh and surrounding regions, extending up to Agra. Authorities believe the airport will act as a catalyst for investment, infrastructure development, and business expansion.

Speaking at the launch of domestic operations, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said the airport is intended to evolve beyond its role as a transportation facility.

“It is the vision of both the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India that NIA should evolve not only as a transportation hub but as a true aerotropolis,” he said.

The launch of commercial operations represents a key step in India's aviation growth story, with Noida International Airport expected to play an important role in enhancing regional connectivity and driving long-term economic development.
