Western Railway's Big Upgrade: 4 New Platforms, 40 New Trains

Western Railway has launched a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade to introduce four additional platforms at key stations—two at Borivali, and one each at Andheri and Virar—aimed at reducing commuter congestion and managing higher passenger volumes.

Key features of the plan include integrating a new platform at Borivali into the ongoing fifth and sixth line project to Virar, alongside another platform at Virar as part of broader multi-tracking initiatives. This expanded rail layout will cleanly segregate suburban and long-distance traffic, providing the operational flexibility needed to introduce 30 to 40 new local services up to Virar and ensure smoother transit for millions across Mumbai's western corridor.
