WAVES of Investment: ₹5,000 Crore Boost for Maharashtra's Film Industry

Maharashtra’s film and entertainment sector is set for a major boost with ₹5,000 crore in new investments from Godrej Fund Management & Investment Advisers and Prime Focus. The investment agreements were formalized through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday.

Announced during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), the development underscores Maharashtra’s leading role in the media and entertainment industry.

Prime Focus, a BSE-listed media and entertainment services company, is spearheading the investment with a ₹3,000 crore commitment to build a cutting-edge "film city." This integrated facility will support all stages of content creation and production, significantly enhancing the region’s filmmaking infrastructure.

While the exact contribution from Godrej Fund Management and Investment Advisers was not disclosed, their participation forms a key part of the ₹5,000 crore total investment aimed at strengthening Mumbai’s entertainment ecosystem.

The initiative is expected to generate substantial employment, drive technological innovation, and reinforce Mumbai’s status as a global media production hub—bringing long-term economic benefits to the state.
