Victory at Ladakh: IOCL Completes Record Fuel Mission

Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has successfully completed its highest-ever winter stocking operation in Ladakh, supplying over one lakh kilolitres of petroleum products ahead of the region’s annual winter shutdown.

Each year, access to Ladakh is cut off from December to April due to heavy snowfall at high-altitude passes such as Zojila and Rohtang. To ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply during this period, IOCL carries out advance stocking operations. These supplies are crucial for meeting the needs of local civilians as well as the strategic requirements of the Indian Army.

Indian Oil’s tanker drivers and field teams navigate some of the world’s most challenging fuel supply routes, covering distances of 1,600–2,000 km over seven to eight days. They operate in extreme conditions, with temperatures plunging to –20°C, while facing heavy snowfall, low oxygen levels, and narrow mountain roads.

The logistics are further complicated by unpredictable weather, seasonal traffic congestion during the Amarnath Yatra, and peak apple transportation periods
