Vedanta Aluminium has inaugurated a 13.4 km railway line to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by 262 tonnes of CO₂ annually. This expansion will support Vedanta’s five MTPA alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district, Odisha.
The new railway line enables 100% inbound and outbound transportation via rail, reinforcing Vedanta’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier. Additionally, the facility now includes six new loop lines within the in-plant yard and an upgraded electronic signaling system, boosting its capacity to handle up to 25 million tonnes of raw materials and commodities annually. These improvements facilitate 20 rakes per day, optimizing logistics efficiency.
Sunila Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of Vedanta Aluminium, stated that the expansion will reduce turnaround time and support the company’s long-term production goals.
