Vattiyurkavu 2.0: ₹506 Crore Makeover Set to Begin

The ₹506.48-crore Vattiyurkavu junction development project in Thiruvananthapuram is set to enter the tendering stage this month, with construction expected to commence by February 2026.

The project has been sanctioned by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) and involves the development of a 10.8-km road stretch connecting Sasthamangalam to Vazhayila, with a proposed width of 18.5 metres. Land acquisition for the first two stretches has been completed, and nearly 99 per cent of existing structures have been cleared.

The scope of work also includes the relocation of electric, water and sewerage utilities, at an estimated cost of ₹13.63 crore. Project execution will be overseen by two special purpose vehicles (SPVs): the Kerala Road Fund Board, responsible for road and junction works, and the Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA), which will handle rehabilitation activities.

For rehabilitation purposes, 2.31 acres of land have been acquired, with shops and supporting facilities being developed for 58 affected traders. Commenting on the project, MLA V.K. Prasanth said the initiative is expected to significantly strengthen local infrastructure and boost trade activity in the area.
