Uttan-Virar Sea Link to Vadhavan Port Approved

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the expansion of the Uttan–Virar Sea Link project up to Vadhavan Port in Palghar district.

The 55.12 km-long sea bridge will feature key connecting roads — Uttan (9.32 km), Vasai (2.5 km), and Virar (18.95 km) — aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity with Mumbai’s major arterial routes. This expansion aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure vision, which includes the development of a multi-purpose corridor and ring roads to support Nashik’s 2027 Kumbh Mela.

Chief Minister Fadnavis also reviewed ongoing metro projects across Pune. He stated that the 4.4 km elevated metro line from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Nigdi will be completed by January 2027, while the underground metro from Swargate to Katraj is slated for completion by March 2029. Additionally, the corridors from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and from Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi are expected to be ready by July 2029.

The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite work on Pune Metro Line 3 and to begin land acquisition immediately for the proposed Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla corridor.
