UP’s Road to Modernity: 49 New PPP Bus Stations Approved

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the development of 49 bus stations under the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) through a public-private partnership (PPP) model based on the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) framework.

Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said the cabinet cleared three proposals from the transport department, aimed at modernising bus infrastructure and enhancing passenger amenities across the state.

These 49 bus stations will be taken up in the second phase of the PPP programme, following the approval of 23 stations in the first phase last year. The upcoming facilities are planned as modern, integrated hubs featuring upgraded amenities such as shopping complexes and cinema halls.

To attract greater private sector participation, the government has relaxed certain bidding terms and conditions under the PPP model.

The cabinet also approved key land allocations for the projects. In Bulandshahr, over one hectare of irrigation department land in Narora will be transferred for a bus depot after the expiry of a lease previously held by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.

Additionally, two hectares of Public Works Department land in Tulsipur will be transferred free of cost to meet long-pending demand for a bus station near the Devi Patan Temple. Around 10 hectares of land in Ratanpur and Hussainpur villages in Sikandrarao tehsil of Hathras will also be allocated.

Officials said the new bus stations will be developed as transport-cum-commercial hubs with facilities such as retail outlets and food courts, aimed at improving passenger convenience, generating local employment, and boosting UPSRTC’s non-fare revenue.
