UP’s Defense Boom: From Vision to ₹34,000 Crore Reality

The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) has attracted investments exceeding ₹34,000 crore across its six nodes, positioning the state as a major hub for defence manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said recently.

Speaking at the inauguration of Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle manufacturing plant, Singh said he had been informed that investments of around ₹34,000 crore had already been committed to the defence corridor.

The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior executives from Ashok Leyland.

Referring to the Uttar Pradesh Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy, Singh—who also represents Lucknow in Parliament—said the state is being systematically developed to emerge as a leading centre for large-scale defence production in India.
