Turning the Tide: Gosthani Canal Gets ₹7 Cr Cleanup Boost!

Originating from the Narsapur Canal near Kakaraparru, the Gosthani Canal winds through nearly 60 kilometers of East and West Godavari—passing key areas like Tanuku, Satyavada, and Bhimavaram before reaching the sea at Kalipatnam. However, continuous dumping of untreated sewage and solid waste has severely degraded its water quality, forcing local residents to rely on private drinking water sources while awaiting the completed Godavari water supply project.

With the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams approaching, state leadership and the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board have prioritized the canal's restoration. Municipal officials are actively diverting drainage outlets into a main drain toward Mandapaka Madugu. To provide a permanent fix, authorities have sanctioned ₹7 crore for land acquisition to construct a 10.7 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) that will ensure wastewater is treated before discharge.
