Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) (TTDI) has successfully delivered its indigenously developed 132kV mobile Gas Insulated Switchgear (m-GIS) system to POWERGRID, marking another milestone in India’s power transmission modernisation efforts.
The system, developed using Toshiba’s engineering expertise, advanced technology, and local manufacturing capabilities, has been built to meet POWERGRID’s stringent technical, operational, quality, and safety requirements. Designed for reliable performance in challenging field conditions, the 132kV m-GIS features a standardised “Connect–Operate–Disconnect–Redeploy” configuration that enhances grid flexibility and operational efficiency.
With a compact footprint, modular design, and transport-friendly structure, the system enables rapid deployment in high-density areas and evolving transmission networks. It is engineered to withstand transportation stresses, maintain critical electrical clearances, and integrate seamlessly into live grid environments, making it suitable for utilities, renewable energy developers, transmission operators, and emergency response applications.
Following the successful deployment of India’s first 220kV m-GIS system and the latest 132kV variant, TTDI is now advancing development of an indigenous 400kV m-GIS system, which is expected to be delivered later this year, further supporting India’s goals of grid resilience and self-reliance in critical power infrastructure.
