The Pink Line Evolution: DMRC’s Double-Decker Milestone.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered the final phase of construction on Delhi’s first double-decker viaduct between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar on the Pink Line, with full completion expected by the end of the year.

Metro operations on the upper deck are already functional following the inauguration of the Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur section on 8 March, while construction work on the lower deck, intended for road traffic, is currently underway. The project faced initial delays due to pending permissions for tree felling, which impacted the construction of approach ramps at both ends.

To expedite completion, DMRC has floated fresh tenders for the remaining works, including approach ramps, three additional spans, and related structural components. The ₹11.7 crore contract also covers balance work on reinforced earth structures and retaining walls, with a completion timeline of six months from the award of work.

Once completed, the viaduct will enable simultaneous movement of Metro trains and road traffic, significantly improving multimodal connectivity and easing congestion along the Bhajanpura–Yamuna Vihar stretch of the Pink Line corridor in northeast Delhi.
