The Finish Line in Sight for Coimbatore's 24/7 Water

The ₹646-crore Coimbatore 24/7 Drinking Water Supply Project, being implemented by Suez, is now expected to be completed by January 2026, covering 60 wards within the city’s pre-2011 limits.

Originally slated for completion by August 2025, the project faced delays due to pending approvals for pipeline works under State and National Highways. The comprehensive initiative includes the laying of 1,822 km of pipelines, construction of 33 overhead service reservoirs, installation of household water meters, and the commissioning of District Metered Areas (DMAs) to monitor and manage water flow.

As of now:

1,807.68 km of pipelines have been laid, 29 reservoirs are operational, 55 DMAs are delivering continuous water supply

Out of a target of 1.5 lakh households, 90,395 homes currently receive uninterrupted supply, while 23,230 households continue to face intermittent service. Officials anticipate reaching 1 lakh connections with continuous supply by the end of the month.

However, road restoration remains a concern, as ongoing underground drainage (UGD) and infrastructure works have led to pipeline damage in some areas. Despite these challenges, authorities remain confident that the city will achieve full-scale 24/7 water supply by early 2026.
