The Delta Upgrade: Irrigation Projects Worth ₹303Cr to Begin

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district Collector R Mahesh Kumar has informed the District Irrigation Advisory Board that irrigation projects worth ₹303 crore will begin by the end of April across the Central and Western Godavari Delta.

The announcement was made during a with board members and officials from the Water Resources and Rural Water Supply departments to review preparations for the upcoming Kharif season, maintenance of irrigation infrastructure, and arrangements for the Godavari Pushkarams. Out of the total outlay, ₹153 crore has been earmarked specifically for Pushkaram-related works.

The Collector stated that irrigation water supply will be temporarily suspended from April 15 to undertake repair works on locks and canals, estimated at ₹150 crore. This includes ₹25 crore allocated for the operation and maintenance of existing infrastructure.

During the meeting, K Suryanarayana and board members suggested removing encroachments along irrigation lock banks to enable the installation of solar panels across the delta region. The meeting was attended by representatives of Water Users Associations, G Srinivas, Superintendent Engineer of the Dowleswaram Circle, and other officials, highlighting the district’s focus on strengthening irrigation systems and promoting sustainable water management ahead of the monsoon.
