The $20 Billion Transition: Brookfield's Clean Energy Power Play

Brookfield has announced the successful close of its USD 20 billion Global Transition Fund II (BGTF II), aimed at accelerating renewable energy development globally—with a strong emphasis on India.

Through its joint venture with Axis Energy, branded as Evren, the fund will help develop 10 GW of wind, solar, and storage capacity across India. This includes a major investment of ₹50,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh to develop 9,000 MW, comprising 3,500 MW of solar and 5,500 MW of wind energy, with 3,500 MW currently under implementation.

Beyond utility-scale renewables, BGTF II will also invest in broader clean energy solutions such as solar module manufacturing, pumped hydro storage, battery energy systems, EV technologies, and green ammonia. The fund builds on the success of Brookfield’s first transition fund (BGTF I), which raised USD 15 billion and supported global projects in carbon capture, sustainable fuels, and energy storage.

Brookfield has also formed strategic partnerships with global tech leaders like Microsoft and Google. President Connor Teskey highlighted the urgent need for investments in scalable, clean, and affordable energy to enable a just and sustainable global transition.
