Telangana: $₹1,733 Crore Boost for Urban Water and Drainage

The Telangana government has approved administrative sanctions worth ₹1,733 crore for eight water supply and nine underground drainage (UGD) projects across various urban local bodies (ULBs) under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF).

The projects have been structured into three packages each for water supply and drainage works. Under Package 1, ₹57.12 crore has been allocated for water supply improvements in Kagaznagar and Bhainsa municipalities. Major allocations include ₹551.54 crore for the Greater Warangal Water Supply Scheme and ₹200 crore for Khammam. Key underground drainage initiatives will be implemented in Mahabubnagar (₹603 crore), Siddipet (₹141.34 crore), and Karimnagar (₹180 crore).

Of the total project cost of ₹1,675.88 crore, ₹1,230.93 crore will be funded through the National Housing Bank (NHB), with the balance provided by the state government.

This initiative aims to strengthen urban infrastructure, promote sustainable water management, and enhance sanitation systems across Telangana’s rapidly growing urban centres.
