The Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGPGCL) has approved ₹4.75 lakh for a pre-feasibility study to explore the expansion of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) at Paloncha.
Delhi-based consultancy firm Desein has been appointed to prepare the report, which will evaluate the feasibility of setting up an additional thermal power unit with a capacity of either 1x800 MW or 2x800 MW. The proposal comes in response to local demands and follows the decommissioning of the KTPS A, B, and C units in 2020 due to technical and economic challenges.
The study will examine critical parameters such as site suitability, fuel and water requirements, logistics, and project cost estimates. It will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
