Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka laid the foundation stone for the Rs 600-crore Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme at Vangaveedu village in Khammam district. The project is set to irrigate 30,000 acres in the Madhira constituency, addressing a long-pending water distribution issue in the region.

During his visit, the Deputy CM also inspected the Sammakka Sarakka barrage and the J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme project sites. He announced a phased release of Rs 100 crore for land acquisition and outstanding payments under the Devadula scheme.

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the revised cost of the Devadula project now stands at Rs 18,500 crore, with Rs 4,331 crore required urgently to clear dues and complete pending works.

On the Polavaram–Banakacherla interlinking project in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, the minister called for a reduction in the Polavaram dam height to safeguard approximately two lakh acres of tribal land at risk of submergence.
