THDC India Ltd. (THDCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) to supply 184.08 MW of renewable energy from the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) in Uttarakhand—India’s first Variable Speed PSP.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Gujarat’s Finance and Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai and other senior officials. The Tehri PSP is expected to significantly support Gujarat’s peak power demand while enabling smoother integration of renewable energy into the state grid, thus enhancing grid stability.
THDCIL Chairman and Managing Director R.K. Vishnoi highlighted that the project will deliver “reliable green power” and provide critical grid flexibility to manage renewable energy fluctuations. He added, “By introducing India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant, we are offering Gujarat a dependable and sustainable solution for its dynamic energy needs.”
The initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of expanding pumped storage capacity to ensure round-the-clock renewable power, representing a key milestone in the public sector’s contribution to sustainable energy infrastructure. THDCIL remains committed to advancing the clean energy transition through cutting-edge hydropower solutions that deliver both reliability and adaptability.
