Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) has collaborated with Probus Smart Things to advance smart metering technology by introducing a Universal Network Interface Card (NIC) equipped with Bluetooth-enabled communication. This partnership is aimed at enhancing connectivity and optimizing meter data collection, even in areas with poor network coverage.
The collaboration will foster the creation of innovative use cases and the filing of joint patents to safeguard intellectual property. Tata Power-DDL’s CEO, Gajanan S Kale, emphasized that this initiative supports the company’s goal of providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions. The Universal NIC facilitates easy integration with consumer mobile apps, allowing for remote meter readings, reconnections, and disconnections.
Initially rolled out in Tata Power-DDL’s operations, the benefits of this NIC are expected to expand to other utilities and regions in the future. Tata Power-DDL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of NCT of Delhi, serves around nine million people in North Delhi.
