Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a comprehensive 10-year powertrain strategy that spans internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and alternative fuels, reflecting its multi-pathway approach to decarbonization.
Internal Combustion Engines (ICE)
By 2025: Continued refinement of 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines.
By 2030: Introduction of direct-injection turbo engines and “digital hybrid” powertrains.
Post-2030: Next-generation ICE platforms to integrate with electrification and run on alternative fuels.
Hybrids
Expansion of strong hybrid systems and phased rollout of plug-in hybrids.
Evolution of its “Super EneCharge” mild hybrid system.
Gen-2 plug-in hybrids expected by 2030, with digital engine integration for enhanced performance by 2035.
Electric Vehicles (EVs)
Development of compact EVs in the A, B, and Kei segments.
Gen-2 EVs with improved range and cost-efficiency targeted for 2030.
Next-gen EVs to feature advanced, affordable battery technologies in the longer term.
Alternative Fuels
E20 ethanol-blended fuel-compatible engines launched in India in April 2025.
Plans to introduce flex-fuel vehicles (up to E85 ethanol) within the current financial year.
This strategy reinforces Suzuki’s commitment to offering diverse, market-specific solutions as global regulations and customer preferences evolve.
