Sterling & Wilson’s ₹3,550 Cr Win: The Solar Sector’s Big News

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy (SWREL) has secured new domestic orders worth around ₹3,550 crore, leading to a strong rally in its stock.

Following the announcement, the company’s shares jumped over 15 per cent on the National Stock Exchange, reaching ₹223.73 and ranking among the top gainers during midday trading.

A major portion of the order comes from Coal India Limited, where SWREL has emerged as the L1 (lowest) bidder for a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The project involves setting up an 875 MW AC grid-connected solar photovoltaic plant in Bikaner, with a total value of approximately ₹3,490 crore, including operations, maintenance, and applicable taxes. This also marks the company’s first project win from Coal India.

Additionally, SWREL has secured a separate order worth about ₹60 crore from a private independent power producer to develop a 50 MW AC solar project in Maharashtra, taking the total order value to ₹3,550 crore.
