The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a ₹822.2 crore loan to fund Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s new water supply project. This amount covers the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation’s (CSMC) share in the ₹2,740 crore project, which is being implemented under Phase II of the AMRIT scheme initiated by the Central government.
Under the funding structure, the state government will contribute 45% of the total cost, while the Centre and CSMC will contribute 25% and 30%, respectively. However, due to financial constraints, CSMC was unable to meet its share, leading the state government to secure funding through a loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). The loan will be provided at a minimal interest rate with an extended repayment tenure.
Cabinet Minister and local BJP MLA Atul Save highlighted the state's commitment, noting that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had assured full support for the project in May. Although the original completion deadline of March 2024 was missed, the project is now expected to be commissioned by October 2025.
