State Clears Way for Mysuru-Kushalanagar Highway

The Standing Committee of the State Wildlife Board has approved the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) proposal for the greenfield NH-75 road project, a 100-km route connecting Kushalanagar to Mysuru.

The project will be implemented in four phases, requiring approximately 54 hectares of land in eco-sensitive areas, including the Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary and the buffer zone of Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. The committee has also cleared a Public Works Department (PWD) proposal to widen the existing road to the Sharavathi Lion-Tailed Macaque Wildlife Sanctuary, aimed at improving connectivity for local residents.

Both proposals, approved under the chairmanship of Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre, will now be forwarded to the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife for final approval. The Sharavathi road widening is part of a broader pumped storage project, for which the Minister has recommended the release of 0.976 hectares of forest land.
