Sribhumi Gets Green Signal for ₹320 Cr. ISBT

The Town Development Council of Assam has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Sribhumi, aimed at easing urban traffic congestion and enhancing the region's transportation infrastructure. The project was introduced by newly appointed Chairman Bishwarup Bhattacharya during a press conference in Guwahati.

Spanning 15 acres, the upcoming ISBT is designed to serve as a key transit hub for thousands of daily commuters traveling between Assam and neighboring states. The terminal will feature dedicated arrival and departure bays, digital ticketing systems, passenger lounges, sanitation facilities, food courts, and a multi-level parking complex.

With an estimated investment of ₹320 crore, the project is being supported by the Assam government and international financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, with potential participation through public-private partnership (PPP) models.

Construction is set to commence this year and will be completed in phases by mid-2027. The development is expected to generate over 500 jobs and boost local economic activity, particularly in the logistics, retail, and hospitality sectors. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and private operators will jointly manage the terminal’s operations.

Once operational, the Sribhumi ISBT is expected to significantly decongest city traffic, enhance commuter experience, and contribute to environmental sustainability through reduced vehicular emissions.
