South Asia's Longest Ride: The Dehradun-Mussoorie Ropeway Takes Flight

A transformative step in sustainable tourism and urban mobility, the 5.2-km Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway is poised to become South Asia’s longest mono-cable detachable gondola and one of the most extensive globally. Set to be operational by September 2026, it will cut travel time between Dehradun and Mussoorie to just 20 minutes while ascending 1,000 meters—significantly easing road congestion and promoting eco-friendly mountain tourism.

The project is being developed by Mussoorie Sky Car, a consortium comprising FIL Industries, POMA SAS, and SRM Engineering. FIL Industries, India’s largest CEN-certified ropeway operator, brings expertise from the acclaimed Skyview by Empyrean in Jammu & Kashmir. SRM Engineering, backed by Rahman Group and Hindustan Dock Yard, will manage development and financing, leveraging its global infrastructure experience.

POMA SAS, a world leader in ropeway technology, is both technical partner and strategic supplier. Marking its first concession investment in India, POMA will incorporate European-standard systems, with a significant share manufactured locally through POMA India—aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative and strengthening the project's local footprint.
