The long-pending demand for a Sindhu Nagar metro station is set to be fulfilled under the Metro 5A corridor, following the state government’s approval of ₹4,063 crore for the project, BJP MLA Kumar Ailani said recently.
Addressing a press conference, Ailani recalled that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier assured during an election rally in Ulhasnagar that metro connectivity would be extended to the city, with one station to be named Sindhu Nagar in recognition of the area’s cultural identity.
“This has been a long-standing demand of residents, and with the project now funded, it is closer to becoming a reality,” he said. He also acknowledged the support of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MP Shrikant Shinde in pushing the project forward, noting that it is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity.
In addition to the metro development, Ailani outlined several infrastructure initiatives underway in Ulhasnagar. He said a ₹99 crore proposal for the concretisation of key roads is in the final stages of approval, while another proposal worth ₹120 crore has been submitted to the state government. A ₹220 crore project to develop an independent water source is also in progress, aimed at ensuring a continuous water supply in the future.
On the urban redevelopment front, Ailani said regular review meetings are being held to expedite the regularisation of buildings. He added that issues related to the Assistant Director of Town Planning (ADTP) have been resolved, which is expected to speed up the redevelopment of dilapidated structures and increase municipal revenue.
He also noted ongoing efforts to address the city’s dumping ground issue and explore engineering solutions—such as underground or double-decker metro alignments—to minimise disruption.
Meanwhile, work on seven major roads being carried out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is nearing completion, with about 90% of the work already done. Remaining tasks, including the installation of dividers and paving blocks, will be taken up soon. Additionally, ₹65 crore has been sanctioned for improving internal roads and public toilets ahead of the monsoon, he said.
