Simhastha 2028: Kshipra Cleansed with New Barrages

In preparation for Simhastha 2028, the Water Resources Department (WRD), Ujjain, has commenced the construction of five barrages along the Kshipra River to maintain its purity and ensure continuous water flow. These barrages will be located at Gothda, Radyopipliya, Jamalpura, Ramwasa, and Panthpiplai, forming a crucial part of the backup strategy to the Kanha Closed Duct project.

To sustain the river's flow during the non-monsoon season, monsoon water will be stored at Sewarkhedi and released into the Kshipra via Silarkhedi as required over the next eight months. Concurrently, efforts are underway to improve water quality by redirecting sewage from Indore, Sanwer, and Dewas to Singawada—downstream of the Gambhir Dam—thereby preventing contamination of the river.

Executive Engineer Mayank Singh noted that the Kanha Closed Duct, currently under construction, measures 4.5 meters by 5 meters and is designed to divert sewage away from the Kanha area.

Sub-Divisional Officer Mayank Parmar provided details about the Gothda barrage, which is situated 200 meters upstream from the Kanha Triveni dam. The structure will be 4.5 meters high, 132 meters long, over 7 meters thick, and equipped with 18 gates. It will have a storage capacity of 0.784 million cubic meters and is being built at a cost of ₹6.24 crore.
