Navi Mumbai International Airport is making significant strides as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) begins testing the Instrument Landing System (ILS) signals. Starting from July 16, 2024, these crucial tests are scheduled to run until July 20, 2024. The ILS, essential for precise runway landings, uses dual radio beams to guide pilots both vertically and horizontally during approaches.
The testing phase aims to evaluate the ILS's performance and ensure that it meets operational standards. This rigorous process involves nearly 20 tests to verify signal accuracy and guidance precision, guaranteeing the safety of aircraft operations upon the airport's opening.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport project, spearheaded by the Adani Group, is progressing in five phases. The first phase, slated to launch by March 2025, is set to manage 20 million passengers annually. Upon full completion, the airport will have the capacity to serve up to 90 million passengers each year.
Successful completion of calibration testing indicates that the airport is on track for its operational debut. The ongoing signal tests are a critical step towards ensuring a smooth and safe launch for this highly anticipated infrastructure.
