Shyam Metalics Forges New Path with Kharagpur Wagon Plant

Shyam Metalics and Energy has announced its entry into the wagon manufacturing sector with the development of a greenfield facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal, under its step-down subsidiary, Ramsarup Industries.

The project will be executed in two phases. Phase I will have an annual production capacity of 2,400 wagons, which will be doubled to 4,800 wagons in Phase II. The facility will produce a wide range of rolling stock, including flat, open, box, hopper-covered, tank, and specialised wagons. Operations are scheduled to begin by March 2026. This initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities and aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” missions.

Designed with a strong focus on sustainability, the plant will incorporate rooftop solar installations and offer residential and recreational facilities for employees. Strategically located with access to national highways and a major port, the facility will leverage Shyam Metalics’ integrated infrastructure.

This diversification represents a key milestone in the company’s five-year capital expenditure roadmap, underlining its commitment to infrastructure development, innovation, and ESG objectives.
