The Uttarakhand government has unveiled a ₹3,300 crore redevelopment initiative to transform a 200 sq. km area in Champawat district.
In its first phase, with an investment of ₹185 crore, the project will focus on redeveloping Sharda Ghat, constructing a heliport at Banbasa, and establishing an international border market. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted that the initiative envisions the holistic development of the region—enhancing its religious, cultural, tourism, and environmental dimensions.
The broader plan includes the restoration of the Mata Rankochi Temple, development of a mountain biking trail, and preparation of a comprehensive master plan for the Sharda riverfront. Designed with sustainability at its core, the Sharda Corridor aims to integrate religion, nature, and livelihood—positioning Champawat as a new hub for tourism, ecological conservation, and destination weddings.
The first phase will also prioritise biodiversity protection and disaster resilience, laying the groundwork for balanced, long-term growth in the region.
