Sarma Kickstarts ₹79 Cr Barak Bridge in Silchar

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 7 December 2025 laid the foundation stone for a key RCC bridge over the River Barak at Madhuraghat, Silchar.

The project, funded under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) 2025–26, will connect Madhuramukh with Silchar city near the Gandhighat rice mill. Valued at over ₹79 crore, the bridge will span 340 metres, including approach roads and essential safety features. Once completed, it will shorten the distance between Itkhola and Dudhpatil by nearly eight kilometres, easing movement for commuters and goods while reducing travel time and fuel consumption.

“The bridge will be completed within two years, fulfilling a long-standing demand for improved connectivity,” CM Sarma said. He also pointed to substantial infrastructure progress in the Barak Valley over the past five years, including major bridges and the upcoming elevated corridor for Silchar. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the region’s development.
