With Gujarat positioning itself to host the 2036 Olympic Games, land acquisition for the ambitious Sardar Patel Sports Enclave in Motera, Ahmedabad, is approaching completion.
Spread across 650 acres surrounding the Narendra Modi Stadium, the ₹5,050 crore project will be developed in two phases. Of the 814 identified structures, 665 have already been demolished, with displaced families being relocated within a 1–3 km radius. Land has also been acquired from entities such as Bhartiya Seva Samaj, Sadashiv Pragya Mandal, and Sant Asaram Ashram—though the Asaram land matter remains sub judice.
Demolition activities are currently underway in Shivnagar and Vanazara Vas, where 90 of 127 structures in Shivnagar and 292 structures for the proposed Aquatics Centre have already been cleared. Additionally, for a planned 24-metre-wide road, 283 of 378 structures have been razed.
The project is being executed in two major packages:
Package 1 (₹2,250 crore) includes the Aquatics Centre, with tenders scheduled for November 2025 and completion expected by November 2028.
Package 2 (₹2,800 crore) comprises an indoor arena, tennis centre, the National Institute of Sports Excellence, and athlete accommodation. Tenders for this phase will be floated in December 2025, with a completion deadline of December 2028.
The Enclave forms a cornerstone of India’s formal bid to host the 2036 Olympics, aiming to deliver world-class infrastructure aligned with international standards and timelines.
