The riverfront development project between Sangamwadi and Bund Garden in Pune has witnessed a cost escalation of ₹73.97 crore, raising the revised total to ₹339 crore.
The additional funds will be used to upgrade public amenities, including widening footpaths and jogging tracks from six to 12 metres, and adding new ghats, viewing decks, and a 77-metre-wide ramp for riverbed access. Project Chief Dinkar Gojare noted that these enhancements are essential to meet evolving riverfront standards and accommodate increasing footfall.
The 3.7-km stretch, executed by BG Shirke Company, is 85 percent complete and includes riverbank strengthening and beautification works. Inspired by Gujarat’s Sabarmati riverfront, the overall initiative aims to transform the 44-km Mula-Mutha river stretch into a vibrant recreational zone. Phases 10 and 11, covering Bund Garden to Mundhwa, will also improve traffic flow through the construction of a new 30-metre-wide road. The project, approved in 2018 at ₹4,727 crore, is being implemented in 11 phases.
