Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has successfully commissioned a 5 MW floating solar power plant at its Bhilai Steel Plant, marking an important milestone in the company’s renewable energy initiatives.
The facility is aimed at strengthening SAIL’s clean energy portfolio while reducing the carbon footprint of its steel manufacturing operations. Installed on water bodies within the plant premises, the floating solar panels optimise land utilisation and enhance energy efficiency.
Company officials noted that the project aligns with India’s national clean energy objectives and forms part of SAIL’s long-term strategy to integrate renewable energy into its core operations. The plant is expected to lower dependence on conventional power sources and contribute to cost optimisation over time.
The commissioning of the floating solar project underscores SAIL’s commitment to sustainable growth, environmental responsibility, and alignment with global green manufacturing practices.
