₹1,157 Cr SynCon Project Ready to Stabilize India's Grid

India’s first synchronous condenser (SynCon) project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework has received approval from the National Committee on Transmission (NCT).

The project—“Installation of 2 Nos. of Synchronous Condenser (SynCon) Units at 765/400/220kV Fatehgarh-II Pooling Station”—is designed to strengthen grid stability in the Northern Region, particularly to support the growing share of renewable energy from Rajasthan. With an estimated cost of ₹1,157.45 crore, the project is targeted for completion within 30 months.

PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) will serve as the bid process coordinator. As the project investment exceeds ₹500 crore, it now awaits final concurrence from the Union Ministry of Power before bidding can commence.

This is a qualitative grid support initiative, focused solely on dynamic reactive power compensation—without requiring new transmission lines or substations. Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) will facilitate the installation by providing space and related infrastructure at the Fatehgarh-II site.
