Ramayapatnam Port: The Next Big Leap in AP Maritime

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to accelerate the Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port project after a Cabinet sub-committee approved key measures to fast-track construction and strengthen connectivity.

During a review meeting at the State Secretariat, Ministers Pyyavula Keshav, BC Janardhan Reddy, and Kandula Durgesh evaluated the project’s progress and outlined the next phase of execution. A major decision included granting an extension for the completion of the port’s first phase, ensuring smoother implementation of ongoing works.

The committee stressed that robust road and rail connectivity will be crucial for the port’s long-term viability and cargo handling efficiency. Officials have been instructed to prepare detailed proposals covering land acquisition and funding requirements for supporting infrastructure, including a northern road corridor and a parallel double railway line to enable seamless multimodal connectivity. Senior officials from the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board and the executing agency Navayuga Engineering Company also participated in the review.

The government reiterated that the project is a strategic infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting maritime trade, industrial development, and regional economic growth along the coast. Once operational, the port is expected to significantly enhance logistics efficiency and attract fresh coastal industrial investments in the region.
