Raipur's HHP Shed Goes Electric with a ₹175 Crore Upgrade

To support its rapidly expanding electric fleet, Indian Railways has approved a ₹175 crore expansion of the High Horse Power (HHP) Diesel Shed in Raipur under the South East Central Railway (SECR). The project will create homing facilities for 250 three-phase electric locomotives, transforming the depot into a high-capacity hub for scheduled servicing, safety inspections, and routine repairs. By scaling up maintenance infrastructure, the expansion addresses growing operational demands, minimizes servicing bottlenecks, and boosts locomotive availability. Ultimately, this modern upgrade optimizes existing railway assets while strengthening the long-term reliability of both freight and passenger operations.
