Railways Approves Survey for Theni–Erumeli Route

The Railways has approved a survey for a new 95-km broad-gauge railway line connecting Theni (Tamil Nadu) and Erumeli (Kerala), bringing the direct Sabarimala rail link project a step closer to reality. Confirmed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the upcoming survey will form the basis for a detailed project report, though no construction timeline has been set. Once finalized, the route is expected to ease pilgrim travel, reduce road congestion, and enhance connectivity between southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
