Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP, Muralidhar Mohol, has announced a direct metro connection between Pune Metro and Pune International Airport. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been directed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro extension.
The announcement came after a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC). The new metro link will extend from the existing Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi corridor, connecting Kharadi to the airport. Mohol also highlighted plans to develop Kharadi into a multimodal transport hub, citing its rapid growth as a key commercial and residential area.
Once completed, the airport metro extension will link all four existing metro corridors—Nigdi to Swargate, Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, Vanaz to Ramwadi, and the new Kharadi route—directly to Lohegaon Airport. This integration aims to provide seamless connectivity to the airport from across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The PMC will fund the DPR preparation, which will be executed by Maha Metro.
